Luxury new build property in West Malling inspired by traditional rural vernacular and local materials with contemporary open-plan living space, spectacular entrance hall, fully glazed gable and feature staircase.
Previously an agricultural shed, we were asked to design a new build home that drew inspiration from rural architecture with a contemporary twist combining bold forms with traditional materials to deliver the client's dream home.
Taking the project from concept to competition, there were several challenges along the way especially when taking into consideration the global pandemic and material shortages. Nevertheless, we worked to deliver the client’s brief and create a truly unique property.
Using a highly insulated timber frame, we were able to crane the pre-fabricated panels in place and erect the building notably quicker than traditional masonry. Oak was used to highlight features throughout the project such as the porch, roof trusses, staircase and joinery. The ragstone was sourced from a local quarry 2 miles from the site and was used to form the base of the building, the window cills and the feature fireplace.

Client Testimonial 'We met 3 architects initially with our brief and James was the only one who got it and changed our dream into the perfect house design he also was involved from start to finish so that kept the build team on top of their game. We found James a great architect to work with and he knows this area and council very well.' - Julie
